We started a discussion on Twitter last week about whether or not guys should or shouldn’t wear jean shorts. The answers were all over the place and it seemed like a bulk of the females said yes, but the guys said pretty much the exact opposite. Go figure.
No matter if I personally like or dislike jean shorts, I thought it might be helpful to show you some different options and some tips.
While in SoHo over the weekend I walked by the Levi’s store and thought to myself, “They must have a ton of jean short options!” Nope. From what I saw, and per the store clerk I spoke with, they seem to have different washes in the 511 skinny jean style. Surprising to say the least.
I gave these a go, but to be frank, I couldn’t get them on properly because “skinny jeans” just don’t work for me. If you have an ultra thin build… these might work for you.
I’m a huge fan of Club Monaco, but while trying on their jean shorts I realized that I’d never actually tried on their jeans.
I don’t necessarily dislike the color of their jean shorts (most brands only have one style), but the fit didn’t work… they seem to take the shape of my leg and they got a bit snug down towards my knee.
I thought TopMan would surely have a few different styles to choose from, but again, options were limited. This particular pair has a little detailing in the thigh area, but there’s not much going on with the wash.
Take note that one leg is rolled up and the other isn’t. Most brands have given jean shorts the cutoff look, but this pair by TopMan doesn’t which means you inevitably have to roll them up twice. If I were to buy this pair I would most definitely cut the hem off to style them a bit.
Last, but not least, is the pair of the bunch that I would buy.
These American Eagle jean shorts seemed to be effortless and had a nice fit. They were a bit roughed up and had a pretty nice wash. Best of all, they only cost $29.95. Click here to pick them up.
At the end of the day, I’ve decided jean shorts aren’t for me. Any style that I have to think about more than a couple times shows hesitation, and I’m a believer that personal style should be pretty effortless.
If you are going to wear jean shorts this summer it’s important to make sure you get the proper fit. Treat them just like you would jeans, and make sure they fit well in the butt as well as down through the thighs. Also, it’s important that you find a style that looks like you just pulled them out of your closet and cut them off yourself. As a matter of fact… that might be your best bet.
